Action Floor Systems has achieved Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification on its maple sports flooring.
EPD is an independently verified certification that communicates the elements of a product and its effects on the environment, from start to finish, throughout its life cycle.
To receive EPD certification, a company must meet the requirements of a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), industrywide Product Category Rules (PCR), and International Organization Standards (ISO).
“Receiving a Proprietary EPD certification reinforces Action Floors’ commitment to the environment and sustainable healthy building initiatives,” says Don Brown, Action Floors technical director. “When architects, facility managers, or dealers source products from our company, they know they are getting a product with a responsible environmental footprint.”
SCS Global Services, a third-party environmental and sustainability certification and standards development, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison conducted LCA studies on Action Floors’ maple hardwood systems. The studies were used to assess the environmental and human health impacts of a product through all stages of its life cycle.
The EPD report discloses all the information required in ISO and PCR and includes a complete description of the product, the LCA study and its results, and any further environmental information a customer might need for product sourcing. Customers who purchase products with EPD certification can also earn LEED credits.
