The Board of Directors of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) selected Ron Miller and Katharine Weymouth to serve as Public Directors. In their new roles, Miller and Weymouth will provide knowledge and advice to the AIA Board.
Ron Miller is vice president of Innovation for BlueScope Building North America (BBNA) of Kansas City, Missouri. Miller’s background includes engineering, consulting, marketing management, innovation management and general management. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering cum laude from Tufts University and an MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
“Ron is a pillar in an industry that dominates expanses of built America and shapes much of our landscape,” says 2017 AIA President Thomas Vonier, FAIA. “He has an understanding of market imperatives and the business values of building. With clear views on the power of design, Ron has perspectives on how new, factory-based design and manufacturing technologies are forever changing buildings.”
Katharine Weymouth is a Senior Advisor at Laurel Strategies and has served as Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of The Washington Post. Weymouth serves on the boards of Graham Holdings, The Economic Club of Washington D.C., The Philip Graham Fund and The Field School.
“Katharine has a grasp of the media world, and of our nearly-universal transition to digital life,” Vonier says. “I admire her courageous record of commitment to civil discourse based on facts. She also has an innate love of architecture and deep affinity for our profession.”
