The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and AIA San Antonio has hosted an event to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. A video of the event was posted to the AIA Facebook page on Oct. 10.
The panel discussion, part of AIA’s “Embracing Our Difference, Changing the World” speaker series, explored implicit bias in the design professions and how diverse representation in leadership affects retention, growth and office culture.
Panelists included Mary Ann Alcorta Mitchell, AIA, founder and president of Mitchell Design Group; Roberto C. Treviño, AIA, District 1 councilman and architect; Paola Fernandez, designer and urbanist at Able City; and Ricardo de Jesús Maga Rojas, Assoc. AIA, architectural designer at GSC and Latinos in Architecture, chair for AIA Austin. The panel was moderated by Siboney Díaz-Sánchez, AIA, architect at Overland Partners and Latinos in Architecture co-chair for AIA San Antonio.
