The Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Florida) will premiere its AIA Florida/Caribbean Design and Honor Awards Presentation via YouTube Premiere, Friday, Sept. 11, at 7:00 PM ET. The program recognizes the best of the best in architectural design from the Florida and Caribbean region, raises public awareness of good design and celebrates architects whose work enriches our built environment and communities.
“This year, AIA Florida received a record number of submissions for the design and honor awards, and the projects and individuals the juries recognized truly demonstrate the impact of excellent design on our built environment, sound design principles, such as resilience, sustainability and architects’ vital contributions to our communities,” states Nati Soto, FAIA, awards chair, immediate past president of AIA Florida.
After evaluating over 300 submissions, the Paris-based design awards jury conferred thirty-four awards, representing 27 architecture firms in Florida and Puerto Rico. The honor award juries conferred eight awards to five architects, two architectural firms, and one AIA local component. Winning firms include Brooks + Scarpa, Arquitectonica, [STRANG] Design, Perkins and Will, DAG Architects, and several others.
The 2020 Design Awards jury convened online in April of 2020. President of the Union Internationale des Architectes (UIA) and Past President of AIA, Thomas Vonier, FAIA, assembled the jury consisting of three Paris-based architects: Thomas Coldefy, Intl. Assoc. AIA, Isabel Meincke, Intl. Assoc. AIA, and Alireza Razavi, AIA. The 2020 Honor Awards juries also convened virtually in May of 2020. The juries included past honor award recipients and longstanding AIA Florida members.
