Papers are invited for the Second Symposium on Building Science and the Physics of Building Enclosure Performance to be held April 11, 2021, and June 6, 2021, at the Sheraton Center Toronto Hotel (Ontario, Canada).
Sponsored by the ASTM International committees on performance of buildings (E06), roofing and waterproofing (D08), and thermal insulation (C16), this two-part symposium will be held in conjunction with the April standards development meetings of committees E06 and C16, and June standards development meetings of committee D08.
The symposium will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on current research, both nationally and internationally, regarding building science and building enclosure performance, with an emphasis on the interfaces between horizontal and vertical elements.
The event will also explore the growing influence of building science on material selection and detailing in both new construction and the adaptive re-use of existing buildings. It will also include testing and assessment of heat/air/moisture transfer, energy use, and the environmental impacts of building enclosures.
Invited authors and presenters will rely on quantifiable research and case studies to demonstrate how a fundamental understanding of building science of whole building performance can deliver higher performing buildings and further inform and enrich the fabric of the built environment.
Topics may include, but are not limited to:
- critical interface detailing
- building and roofing science
- durable and resilient design
- critical review of E06, D08, and C16 standards
- case studies and more
Papers co-authored by members across committees is encouraged.
To participate in the symposium, authors must submit a 250 to 300-word preliminary abstract using the Abstract Submittal Form, by April 24, 2020.
