Creative Edge, a Weaton company of Fairfield, Iowa, has acquired the Chicago-area company Custom Flooring Insets (CFI). The acquisition merges complementary skills, bolstering Creative Edge’s position as the largest waterjet operation in the U.S. and expanding custom architectural service offerings, as well.
Chicago-based Creative Edge Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Jim Thompson comments, “The more we got to know each other’s business, the clearer it became that this partnership was smart—for both companies and for our collective customers.”
Nate Weaton, CEO of Creative Edge and its parent company, Weaton Capital, adds: “The synergies are obvious—our commitment to our customers and quality products are a match and our merged project portfolio makes us the most experienced fabricator of custom stone, tile, resilient and carpet surfaces in the country. The proximity of the 150,000 square foot Creative Edge plant to the Chicago market is another plus that will allow us to seamlessly serve CFI customers.”
CFI has partnered with Chicago-area flooring contractors since 1946, engineering and fabricating custom flooring designs from its plant in East Dundee, Ill. The firm’s work appears in athletic facilities across the Midwest. In addition to its experience in resilient flooring; rubber, sheet vinyl and vinyl tile; CFI, like Creative Edge, also creates custom flooring in stone, tile, and carpet for luxury residential and commercial projects. Al Stensrud, CFI president, adds: “I have known Creative Edge for many years. They are committed to delivering quality products, and I am happy to pass the torch to such a well-respected company.”
Current CFI customers will receive one-to-one service from the Creative Edge team with new benefits, including expanded capacity; new services, including custom terrazzo products; and access to Creative Edge’s technology and designers and technicians. The expanded company will be marketed under the Creative Edge brand.
