Design and Sustainability Experts to Judge Next Cradle to Cradle Challenge

A panel of design, manufacturing, and sustainability experts will judge the next Cradle to Cradle Product Design Challenge, the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute has announced.

The Cradle to Cradle Product Design Challenge V judging panel includes:

  • Chris Uecker, senior scientist – product design and development, Target
  • Dr. Debbie Mielewski, senior technical leader – materials sustainability, Ford Motor Company
  • Doug Brown, manager, business strategy – sustainability, BASF Corp.
  • Dr. Habil Hasso Weiland, technical fellow, Arconic
  • Lewis Perkins, president – Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute
  • Stuart Constantine, co-founder, Core77
  • Zem Joaquin, founder, Near Future Summit & EcoFabulous
  • Zoé Bezpalko, design + impact lead, Autodesk

William McDonough, co-founder of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute and co-author of “Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things,” and “The Upcycle: Beyond Sustainability – Designing for Abundance,” will provide critique and commentary to the winners of each prize category.

Submissions for the next Challenge are being accepted now through May 14, 2017. This round features a new prize for the Best Use of Cradle to Cradle Certified Material in addition to the four existing prize categories: Best Professional Project, Best Student Project, Best Use of Autodesk Fusion 360, and Best Use of Aluminum.

The Cradle to Cradle Product Design Challenge is the fifth in a series of six challenges slated to run through early 2018. This challenge is presented by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute in partnership with Autodesk and with support from Arconic Foundation.

With a vision to educate, inspire and engage designers and students around the world to use regenerative design principles and Cradle to Cradle Certified materials to envision and design products for a circular economy, the Challenge has attracted 325 design submissions from more than 400 designers in 30 different countries to date.
