Duravit USA has announced its annual Designer Dream Bath Competition, now open for submissions. In its sixth year, the competition honors designers and architects who showcase a dream bathroom envisioned with Duravit products. Project submissions are accepted in either the completed Built category (completed projects from the last five years) or
conceptual Unbuilt category (renderings or sketches of the designer’s own bathroom, reimagined with Duravit). This year’s edition will ask designers and architects submitting in the Unbuilt category to infuse their bathroom with at least one of Duravit’s furniture lines for 2018: Brioso and XSquare.
“Our competition prompts designers to find inspiration in the bathroom, proving how anyone’s bathroom – no matter the size,
location, or budget – can be constructed to become a personal oasis,” states Duravit USA President, Tim Schroeder.
After a successful launch in 2015, the Built category will continue this year with submissions focused on various designer projects featuring Duravit products from the last five years. The Unbuilt category asks designers to compose spaces with Duravit collections to visualize a dream bathroom. The Built category caters projects from all arenas, including residential, commercial, and hospitality design. The Built winner receives $5,000 of Duravit product.
The Unbuilt category encourages designers to delve into Duravit’s product library and get to know its Brioso and
XSquare collections. The winner in this category receives $10,000 in Duravit product to make their dream bath a reality.
The competition opens for entries at ICFF 2018 and closes on Friday, Sept. 7. Winners are chosen by a panel of designers and design editors and are announced during Duravit Design Week (October 2018) in New York City.
Featured collections for the 2018 Duravit Designer Dream Bath Competition Unbuilt Category:
- Brioso: The Brioso collection, named for the word lively in Italian, takes a playful approach to design that encapsulates the term. With slender legs and geometric handles, this 2018 launch from Duravit and designer Christian Werner brings design to the Duravit bathroom furniture offerings. Its stand-out feature – handles and legs – have the versatility of being finished in the same vanity or cabinet color when requested, offering a solution without impeding the design aesthetic of Brioso. The handles mimic an edge pull and offer an addition to the aesthetic of Brioso. Brioso offers a bathroom furniture collection that updates classic look cabinets with a modern spin.
- XSquare: In collaboration with designer Kurt Merki Jr., the XSquare is a bathroom furniture range attuned to the design of the DuraSquare washbasins. The XSquare stands apart thanks to its angular chrome profile, which accentuates the edges of both the wall- and floor-mounted vanity options. On the floor-standing models, the transition from frame to leg is seamless. The chrome frame of the XSquare is an extension of its corner radius, creating both visual harmony and independence. Three furniture finishes – matte light blue, matte concrete gray, and satin-matte aubergine – as well as the linen decor finish, round off its color palette. The furniture range is completed with storage cabinets, mirror-storage solutions, and mirrors.
Additional category information:
- Built Category: The Built category allows designers to showcase their own projects with Duravit fixtures completed between 2013-2018. The designs can be built for residential, hospitality, and/or commercial settings. Designers participating in the Built category submit photography of the completed work.
- Unbuilt Category: The Unbuilt category takes the inverse approach, asking designers to create a redesign of their own bathroom featuring their choice of products from two of the Duravit 2018 collections. For the Unbuilt category, designers submit a rendering or sketch of their “Duravit Dream Bathroom,” including a before image of the intended space.
Submissions for the 2018 Designer Dream Bath Competition close on Sept. 7, 2018. Winners will be announced during Duravit Design Week (Oct. 1-3, 2018). More information, FAQs, and forms for the competition are available online.
