JELD-WEN—a global manufacturer of windows, doors, and treated composite trim and panels—announced a new way that it will provide sustainable and environmentally focused whole-home solutions. The company announced that it has earned GREENGUARD Gold Certification.
GREENGUARD Gold Certification is awarded by UL Environment, a division of Underwriters Laboratories, which provides an in-depth review and analysis of chemical emissions from JELD-WEN’s products. GREENGUARD Certified products aid in the creation of healthier indoor environments, and release fewer pollutants that can contribute to health issues, including asthma and other respiratory issues. Upon completion of the review process, all doors manufactured with JELD-WEN door skins will carry this important certification.
“Our products play an important role in creating a sustainable home,” says Jim Parello, vice president of Marketing for JELD-WEN. “That includes everything from reducing the amount of heat and energy that can escape a home during the winter to ensuring our products are constructed from materials that promote a healthy living environment for our customers.”
The GREENGUARD Gold Certification is just the latest effort from JELD-WEN to conduct business sustainably. To date, many JELD-WEN interior doors are constructed locally in the U.S. from recycled material and the company maintains Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Chain of Custody certification to provide socially responsible options to customers. This process ensures that the wood used is obtained through appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management. Additionally, all JELD-WEN interior doors are CARB Phase II compliant to further demonstrate JELD-WEN’s commitment to our customers.
Earning the GREENGUARD Gold Certification requires an in-depth analysis of each provided door. Using dynamic environmental chamber testing, products are tested for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including formaldehyde, as well as more than 300 other VOCs with health-based limits. To remain certified, products undergo comprehensive certification testing on an annual basis, giving consumers peace of mind that they are selecting products that support better indoor environments.
Recognized and referenced by more than 400 codes, rating systems and procurement policies worldwide, the GREENGUARD Certification requires that products meet some of the world’s most rigorous and comprehensive limits for low emissions of volatile organic compounds into indoor environments.
