The Metal Construction Association (MCA) has presented its annual Patrick R. Bush Volunteer Service Award to Jonathon Rider and its Larry A. Swaney Award to Mark James. The awards were given during the MCA winter meeting in Key Largo, Fla.
Patrick R. Bush Award
This award recognizes a MCA member who made significant volunteer contributions to the Metal Construction Association. It was established to honor Pat Bush, a long-time MCA board member. The 2019 recipient, Jonathan Rider, has been with MCA since 2014.
Rider has served as Accessories Committee Vice Chair and has been on the Board of Directors for the past three years. He has also served as the METALCON Liaison Chair since 2017. Rider was a contributor to the revamp of the METALCON show format in 2018 and helped ensure that the Total Experience format was successful for both exhibitors and attendees.
“Those who know Jonathon speak to his strong sense of commitment and can say that he gives 110 percent to every project he works on,” says MCA Executive Committee Chair, Ed Karper.
Larry A. Swaney Award
Named for one of the MCA founders and its first president, this award has been bestowed upon industry professionals for their contributions to the success of the association and the betterment of the metal construction industry. The award this year goes to Mark James.
Since designing his first roof system in the late 1970s, James has helped complete over 30 million square feet of sloped frame over flat roof retrofit projects. He has conducted training programs at METALCON, International Roofing Expo, The Roof Consultants Institute, National Facility Managers & Technologies and more than 100 AIA continuing education programs. James has served as MCA Retrofit Council Chairman and lead coordinator for the MCA Championship Metal Roofing Games competition at METALCON.
“Mark’s contributions have been nothing short of remarkable,” states Karper. “We’re fortunate to have him in our industry.”
