Mockett has announced three winning entries in its 2017 Annual Design Competition. The first entry coming from repeat winner, Steve Goldberg, who has engineered a floor track wire management system that allows cables to enter and exit at various entry points along the raceway.
The other two entries came from Industrial Design students at Appalachian State University. This marks the second year in a row that students from Appalachian State have won. Peter Clare submitted a deco-inspired door handle design that includes chamfered layers that step down into a smooth grip surface area. Colter Swan submitted an aerodynamic shelf bracket with rhythmic cuts for added design aesthetic and structural stability that will fit into an existing shelf track system from Mockett, a line extension accessory.
Professor Michael Rall adopted the contest as part of his senior level design studio curriculum to introduce his students to real world applications and to allow his students the freedom to research and refine their design process to fit the current market. This also allows students the opportunity to have their work reviewed by an outside entity.
Mockett is now accepting entries for its 33rd Annual Design Competition. For more information on entering, visit the website. To enter, send a write-up about your idea. A drawing is even better, and a model is best. The deadline to enter is Sept. 4, 2018.
