Mockett hosts an Annual Design Competition, now in its 34th year, that gives designers an opportunity to see their product idea come to life. The latest winning entries came from design students Hannah Eckersley and Michael Nelson, both are enrolled in the industrial design program at Appalachian State University. This is exciting since it is the third year in a row students from Appalachian State have submitted winning entries. There are no restrictions for entry and no professional credentials required; making this an ideal opportunity for students, freelance designers, and hobbyists to take a shot at winning a cash prize of $1000 and royalties based on sales.
Hannah’s design is an art deco inspired coat hook that takes an ordinary stamped triangle plate and layers it by bending out additional interior triangles that serve as multi-level hooks. Hang a shirt or jacket on the bottom hook and an additional jacket, hat or scarf on the larger hook above.
Michael’s design is a floor wire manager that runs under a desk against the back of the desk or against the wall or baseboard to shield and conceal wires out of harm’s way and doubles as a footrest. A unique take on ordinary wirestay channels that adds a caddy for power strips and allows additional cabling to run underneath.
