Wood manufacturer, Kebony, has announced the North American availability of Kebony Character, a full range of FSC-certified, modified scots pine cladding and decking, according to Kebony U.S. Sales Manager Andy Hehl.
For the North American market, Kebony Character decking and cladding is available in a multitude of dimensions to accommodate a range of exterior and some interior applications. The material is thus providing an alternative to traditional toxic impregnations.
As with all Kebony woods, Kebony Character is modified using a bio-based liquid that, after it is cured, permanently enhances the wood’s durability and dimensional stability. The patented process results in wood cell walls that are thicker and provide a hardness that rivals tropical hardwoods.
Kebony Character products are homogeneously modified and can be cross-cut to length as required, but exposed end-grain (after cross-cutting) must be sealed with a wood preservative. They should not, however, be further machined or split, as natural, untreated heartwood will be exposed.
Kebony technology initially produces a deep brown color; after exposure to sun and rain the wood develops a natural silver-gray patina over time. Performance is maintained, while beauty is enhanced.
