WoodWorks, an educational initiative that provides free technical support and resources related to non-residential and multifamily building projects, is accepting nominations for its newly expanded U.S. Wood Design Awards, which celebrate excellence in wood design and construction. The deadline for entries is Nov. 30, and winners will be announced Jan. 29, 2013, at the Oakland Wood Solutions Fair.
“The Wood Design Awards honor architects and engineers who have found innovative ways to use wood in buildings and showcase benefits of wood, such as strength, beauty, versatility and sustainability,” says Adrian Blocker, WoodWorks president and CEO. “This year, WoodWorks has evolved its regional Wood Design Awards into one program to encompass the entire U.S. and present winning projects and firms on an even grander stage.”
Projects may be submitted in eight categories:
- Institutional design
- Commercial design
- Multi-story wood design
- Interior beauty of wood
- Green building
- Traditional use of wood
- Engineering
- Schools

There are no project nomination fees, and multiple submissions are encouraged. To be eligible, projects must be located in the U.S. or its territories and must have been completed within the past three years. Recent projects must be fully constructed by Nov. 30, 2012. Award winners will be recognized for their innovative designs and projects at the Oakland Wood Solutions Fair. Winning projects and designs will be showcased at the Oakland Wood Solutions Fair, as well as the Atlanta Wood Solutions Fair on Feb. 6, 2013, and the Seattle Wood Solutions Fair on Feb. 27, 2013.
