MATERIALS
A new 24-gauge 238T standing-seam metal roof in regal white was installed over an existing barrel roof. About 7,000 lineal feet of 16-gauge factory-notched sub-purlins were manufactured 5-inches deep to accommodate full-thickness R-13 fiberglass insulation that was installed in the cavity between the existing and new roofs. Because of high-wind speeds for the area, continuous clips available with the 238T roof system were installed to satisfy wind-uplift requirements. Additional sub-framing was not required in corners or on roof edges.

THE RETROFIT
The new 120-foot-long roof panels were rollformed and curved onsite. The challenging job required up to 15 roofing workers to stage the panels atop the existing roof. Approximately 31,500 square feet of metal roofing was installed.
