A report has been released from the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) that helps retailers measure their sustainability programs against industry peers and identify opportunities for improvement. The “2017 Retail Sustainability Management Report,” which is the result of a survey of 31 retail companies, breaks down a retail sustainability program into 30 dimensions retailers can use to track their progress along each category.
According to the report, “Our initial assumption, that sustainability in the retail industry is still a maturing field of practice, is coming true. Sustainability continues to mature into a part of the industry’s identity. Since the publication of the 2015 report, we have seen companies take on more sustainability challenges, fulfill past goals and commit to additional goals, and hone their approaches. Most notably, we see our members leveraging sustainability as a catalyst for innovation in their operations, service offerings, and products.”
