Although the aluminum façade system is ideal for new construction, it is particularly beneficial for retrofit and replacement in cases where portions of structures have sustained damage. The bi-directional concealed fastener system allows aluminum profiles to be installed from the bottom up or top down or in both directions simultaneously to speed installation. The system allows individual panels to be easily removed and replaced without compromising adjoining panels or the overall appearance of a structure’s façade. The clip connection provides high-wind suction resistance for the façade.
The dome’s lower portion uses about 85,000 square feet of the façade system, and the upper, curved walls call for 280,000 square feet of the aluminum panels. For the upper portion of the re-cladding a scaffold system has been specially designed by ThyssenKrupp Safway Inc., Luling, Ga., to fit the dome’s well-known curvature.
The Beat Goes On
Plans are being completed for an additional $85 million improvement package that will include newly configured sideline seating, additional private club and suite areas, a wider main concourse and new press box. This work will occur this summer and next.
The renovation is being completed on schedule and at intervals to allow the dome to host major events and prepare for a future filled with major performances and events, including the 2013 Super Bowl.
