Trane and Washburn Tech will welcome back Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback for an open house of the Midwest Training Center for Climate and Energy Control Technologies (MTC) on Thursday, Feb. 20, at the school’s campus. Washburn Tech is a technical training institute based in Topeka, Kan.
The MTC was created through a partnership with Washburn Tech, the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), and Trane to provide state-of-the-art heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) training labs and curriculum to help close the skills gap and meet industry-required skill levels.
NC3 was established to address the need for strong industry partnerships with educational institutions to develop, implement, and sustain industry-recognized portable certifications with strong validation and assessment standards. The Washburn Tech labs feature innovative and advanced HVAC technology solutions manufactured by Trane.
The MTC Open House will take place simultaneously with the Washburn Tech Letter of Intent Signing Ceremony, where new students for the 2014-15 school year will take part in a ceremony, similar to an athletic signing, in Washburn Tech’s Conference Center at 5724 S.W. Huntoon St. The ceremony is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to celebrate the dignity of their work.
Participants in the MTC Open House will join Gov. Brownback and area business and community leaders to meet new students and help affirm their decision that a technical education will prepare them for a strong career.
Registration will begin on Feb. 20 at 9:30 a.m., followed by introductions at 9:45 a.m. at the Midwest Training Center on the Washburn Tech Campus, 5724 S.W. Huntoon St., Topeka, KS 66604.
Guided tour of the MTC begins at 10:15 a.m.
Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback will address the audience at 10:45 a.m. in the Conference Center on the Washburn Tech campus.
Guests are encouraged to register for the Business and Industry Open House with Nancy Palbicke, (785) 228-6322.
